Writing Prompt: Interesting Beginning
Done for the
a_soc_k prompt contest (having missed the first one). Rules were simple, taking prompt, limit yourself to 250ish words, write.

In media res is this storytelling technique where a story starts in the middle where the action is. It makes things more exciting, gets the viewer hooked, and generally looks more splashy and interesting than starting at character A’s childhood and waiting for the interesting to pick up the goddamn pace.
The inherent problem of this technique, however, is you have no idea what the crap is going on; "who is this guy?" "Why are they shooting at him?" "Somehow I don’t think her mother approves of her wardrobe," that kinda thing. It’s captivating, but in the same way seeing an explosion is. You like big boom, but why it happened is completely over your head.
Amnesia too is a fun little character addition, where one has no past memories of their life before a certain point (often washed up on a beach) but still retain learned skills, including badass fighting moves and second languages.
Why is all this going through my head right now? Well, when your first and only conscience memory is realizing that you’re duck-taped to a swivel chair and the second thing going through your head is the fist that just knocked you to the floor, its wonder about what your life choices were that got you in this situation or bask in the pain. Well, I know I can’t fight and judging from how pissed these guys are, I don’t speak Spanish either. And I’m also not a fan of pain.
