7. Do you listen to music while you write? What kind? Are there any songs you like to relate/apply to your characters?
Sometimes. Really, it depends on the mood I'm in, and whether or not I feel it will help. Lyrical music tends to be distracting during the actual process, but I'll kick on a montage of songs beforehand to kinda set the mind set I'm going for. Usually I'll put on jazz, mainly because I'm a big saxophone fan, but also because the way it curves and dips helps with the flow of writing to me.
I'm pretty eclectic on music, the only thing I avoid as much as possible is country, and even then I have a few (very few) songs I do like. I'm a sucker for stupid dance-pop; I like the energy and beats, sue me. Jazz, orcestral, operatic metal, folk, it varies from subject to subject.
I'm not one to really apply an indiviual song to any character, music for me tends to focus on the work itself, or a particular scene; the characters are part of the scene, so to pick them out is like saying "hey, hey, focus on this person, this person is who you need to pay attention to" instead of "damn, check all that out".
Which isn't to say I won't totally disregard any and all rules if I think it's cool enough.
