Resolutions for the new year aren't exactly the best way to start things off. The word is too strong for things that people are mainly only wishing for, things that they want but most likely won't honestly put the effort into after two weeks. So I'm not making any New Year resolutions. I'm making a list of things I wish to hopefully accomplish. If I do them, sweetness. If I don't, the goal stands until completed or gets placed on the side. Either way, I'm not committing myself to something I can promise will happen. But I can hope.

***

1) Finish a story - this is something I am going to be putting a bit of pressure on myself to complete. I have so many ideas, and more waiting, that I'm just a putz to be not finishing anything. I'm sidelining all projects at the moment and taking a look at each one by one to determine which are the furtherest along and have my interest enough that could realistically move to a more advanced point. Probably at least three will be chosen, so as to allow rest from each to layway burnout.

2) Learn to cook - I can follow a recipe, but I love watching food competition shows where they make up whatever they want. And I'm not looking to be at that level, but I would like to be able to throw something together without needing to consult the internet and Alton Brown Youtube clips three hours before attempting to turn on the stove.

3) Learn to play the piano - it used to be jazz sax, but I'm starting small (relatively). I figure I enjoy music too much to not know how to play an instrument of some sort, and the piano is also jazzy, so I'm going to aim for that.

4) Go on more road trips - I have friends up above Seattle I need to visit, badly, so having the means and time to do so will be needed, but I want to start going places. I hear there are some interesting people down south California way.

5) See a dentist - someone I haven't seen in years, and I really ought to. Money is always holding me back on it, so it's something to shoot for.

6) Get back into my art - I've wanted to do this for a while, but lack of inspiration keeps me from really diving in. But after this last summer, I've had a range of ideas I hope to try later on. The slight holdback on those is quite a few of them are either large projects, or sculpture ideas that I don't have enough knowledge in. But in the mean time, I could really sharpen my pen and ink skills.

7) Work out more and learn to free run - free running is when you run through a city like you stole something, jumping and hurdling over any obsticles in your way. It looks awesome and you have to be in good shape to pull of a good three-quarters of the moves, and I want to do it. But I've always lacked a lot of the upper body strength it requires, so that's something I want to work on.

There's a few other things I need to do, but they're too important to just hope for. They need to get done, right quick and in a hurry. So that's something to get going as soon as I get back to P-town.

Other than that, I don't know what do really look for in the new year. This past one has been so low that hopefully I can going look up. I just need to get things in gear.

That sounds like a great way to keep (and maybe more importantly, feel) productive, too.

What a coincidence, I hear there are some fascinating folks up in Oregon. ;)

I've never heard of free running before, but it sounds scary awesome.
